Acceptable documents:
To legally supply number plates we will need to see the original documents that:
prove your name and address
show you’re allowed to use the registration number
Please provide a document from both Part 1 and Part 2 below:
Part 1: Identity documents
You can use the following to confirm your name and address:
driving licence
utility, Council Tax or rates bill from the last 6 months
bank or building society statement from the last 6 months
national identity card
The following will confirm your name only:
passport - does not have to be issued in the UK
bank or building society debit or credit card
police warrant card
armed forces identity card
The law permits purchasing number plates as gifts, thus the ID document does NOT need to match the registration entitlement documentation.
Part 2: Proving you can use the registration number
You must bring one of the following to show you’re allowed to display the registration number:
vehicle registration certificate (V5C or V5CNI)
green ‘new keeper’ slip from the V5C or V5CNI
certificate of entitlement (V750 or V750NI) to the number
retention document (V778)
a renewal reminder for vehicle tax or SORN (V11 or V11NI)
temporary registration certificate (V379 or V379NI)
a number plate authorisation certificate (V948) with an official stamp from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA)
an electronic number plate authorisation certificate (eV948 or eV948/2)
a letter of authorisation from a fleet operator (including lease or hire company) quoting the document reference number from the registration certificate
if your fleet is in the new V5C on demand scheme (also called ‘V5C suppression’), a PDF of the vehicle’s details from the view vehicle record service
UK trailer registration certificate (VTRC)
The law enables number plates to be purchased as gifts. As such the names do not need to match on both documents. The ID and registration entitlement documentation may have names that differ.

We currently offer free tracked delivery via the Royal Mail Tracked service on orders over £25! When ordering your new plates please take into consideration that we need a 24 hours production time on each order; the majority of the time this isn’t required and plates sometimes can be ready and sent for delivery within minutes.
Collections are available from Monday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm. Orders can be placed online and collection selected at checkout, or order in person and pay via cash or card. Please bring your ID and proof of entitlement to the registration when collecting your order. Our workshop is based in Rochdale, OL11 1DR.
Yes, our 3D & 4D plates are 100% legal (except show plates), here is a link to the DVLA Government website that states “Characters on a number plate can be 3D.” - Government Number Plate Rules. (‘4D’ is just an industry standard name, they are still 3D)
Once we receive the required ID & registration entitlement documentation the order will join our production queue. The order is typically produced and dispatched within 24hr once it reaches the production queue. If there is an issue with your order we will contact you.
Most delays with orders are due to missing valid documentation. If your order has not arrived, please confirm if you have provided the required documentation. Once your order ships you will receive an email with the tracking details (the message may be incorrectly flagged as spam in your spam folder, please check). If you have still not received any email, then please contact us.
The letters are bonded with industrial-strength acrylic bonding. We have tested our 4D plates on numerous vehicles with curved bumpers with no issues to date. However, if the bumpers have an extreme curvature which we have not come across we cannot be held liable. You must accept the risk and responsibility.
We recommend purchasing the 3D Gel number plates for their extreme flexibility.
All plates are supplied with 12 months warranty covering manufacturing defects or naturally occurring issues. The warranty does not cover customer inflicted faults. Please note BSAU145e regulations recommend using sticky adhesive pads to attach the number plates to the vehicle.
For any other warranty queries please contact us via the contact page.
Show Plates are not road legal and manufactured for customers who have vehicles that attend shows or track days in order to hide a cars registration number or VRM. You can create a great looking number plate to enhance the look of your car whilst at the event and must remove from the vehicle if you are driving home in the car.
Our custom number plate builder is simple to use and will allow you to create the perfect show number plate.
Show plates do not have the legal requirements for road use and as a result, should not be used on UK roads.
Show plates are purely for novelty and decoration. You can’t use them legally on the road instead of a number plate, which is registered with the DVLA and used to identify a vehicle in the event of an accident or crime
It is not illegal for companies to supply number plates to customers for show purposes only. We DO NOT sell plates that are intended for road usage. These show plates must be used for the purpose they are made which is for car shows or track days where you are allowed legally to hide the registration number or VRM.
Shows plates are not intended for road usage because any number plate supplied for a car on the road must meet the legal standards specified in the Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001.
All number plate suppliers by law must be registered with the DVLA and be authorised to manufacture number plates and the plate manufacturer must conduct identity checks with customers before supplying any legal number plates.
Number plates that are supplied must also conform with the law with regards to the layout of the registration mark and the British Standard which sets out in detail the properties that a number plate must possess to be lawfully displayed on a vehicle. Show plates do not carry these properties as they are intended for shows only and must not be used on the road.
To monitor the industry "The Register of Number Plate Supplier (RNPS)" scheme involves the DVLA’s enforcement officers working with the police and trading standards officers to carry out compliance and educational visits to registered suppliers of number plates.
The usage of show plates on roads is illegal and it is also illegal to sell show plates for road usage. This is covered by Section 28 of the Vehicles (Crime) Act 2001 which states a person who sells a plate or other device which is not a registration plate as a registration plate knowing that it is not a registration plate or being reckless as to whether it is a registration plate shall be guilty of an offence.
The law recognises number plates that display a vehicle registration mark and all number plates must adhere to display regulations and suppliers of these plates must follow regulations concerning their sale.
So to make it very clear, Laser Plates will not provide any show plate that is intended for road usage, please do not attempt to order from us if this is your intention as we operate a legal business that is built on trust and customer satisfaction.
Please note: Show plates are not intended for road use and it is illegal to purchase from us for this purpose.
